The river Evros, is bigger Balkan afterwards Danube. With his big vegetation, it commits enormous quantities of dioxide of coal and stores or releases heat, regulating thus the microclimate of region. It protects the soil and the waters, in parts that exist big erosion, maintain important natural vegetation in soil that from their nature was not offered for culture and thanks to the humidity that it has, it encourages the existence and maintenance of big variety of flora and fauna.

 In 350 amount the plant types, that shape the plant vegetation of Delta of Evros. Closely and the animal world, finds here, ideal conditions for the maintenance and his proliferation. The fishes, deposit their eggs in hot waters, where live crustaceans, clams, worms, salamantres and ranunculida. 'All these with the millions of mosquitos that are multiplied in dead water, give abundant food in the reptiles, in the amphibians, in the small birds and biggest find easy preys for their diet.

As generally speaking in the Delta Evros, have been pointed out 46 species of fishes, 7 species from amphibian, 21 species from more reptiles and from 40 species of mammals (bidres, tiger cat, badger, weasels badgers, hedgehogs, helm, squirrels, chiropter .), while a enormous number of birds, uses the Delta, or for permanent stay, or for shelter the wintry months, or for space of rest at their locomotion from Northern Europe in Africa. 310 species, they have been recorded in the Delta, that represents the 74% 420 species of birds that were recorded in Greece.

All these, render Delta of Evros, exceptional importance biotope. The importance this is increased, if it is combined with his adjacency with the other near biotope, the forest of Dadias and the neighbouring mountains, from where many rapaciously as sea eagle, fidaetoi ,golden eagle and kraygaetoi, come here in order to they find their food. Particular the pairs of blakstork region, from minimal that exist in Greece and hole up in the around hills, visit daily almost the wetland of Delta, that ensures their food.

For this protection of all plant and animal wealth, have been signed international conventions and were published Community directives and ministerial decisions, while are forecasted special programs for visits and acquaintance of citizens, with this rich biotopes and his winged tenants.
