Samothrace lagoons
Another major highlight of Samothrace, apart from the beaches, are the numerous lagoons, streams and rivers with crystal clear water that surges from mount Saos or Feggari(moon) to the sea.
The gushing water creates waterfalls as it flows down and the celebrated ‘vathres’ (small natural swimming pools). The river Tsivdogiannis lagoons are famous as well as the Gria Vathra (Old lady’s Lake), close to the village Therma, where the hike up to mount Feggari begins.
From the numerous waterfalls, one of the most famous is the Fonias stream whose highest waterfall, Kleidosi, reaches 35 meters. Others include Kakia Plaka, Karia, etc.
Beautiful waterfalls you can find in the streams Xeropotamos, Karagiannakis, Kremastos, Giali, Agistros, Platias and Arapi.
